About Our Project
The sole purpose of our database is to be able to retrieve and store customer information from only one place instead of running around and using paper files, excel spreadsheets, and separate databases for automotive services. Being a large automotive service and dealership with over 20 locations across the tri-state area, we face the issue of storing customer and auto information after the sale of a vehicle and sharing this information with our technicians across our various locations. The database will help eliminate the time it takes for our technicians to become informed on past issues with customer vehicles no matter the location the customer chooses to visit. The database will also increase Atlantic Auto Groups ROI by maintaining long-lasting mutually beneficial relationships with customers and informing them when to return for car inspections and other services.
The majority of the customer information is stored under the customers table. It holds all necessary personal contact information including customer ID, name, address and phone number. Next, there is a table for appointments, which stores the appointment ID, date, last digit of VIN, mileage in and mileage out, etc. The primary tech table stores the technician's information whom is responsible for the service of specific vehicles. Next, the service details table stores the type of service conducted and notes taken by technicians. Lastly, the vehicle table stores all vehicle information including the last digit of the VIN, year, make, model and purchase date of the vehicle, etc. The information stored in these tables is what makes it possible to create the forms, queries, and reports.
The forms created in the database are an easy way for technicians and managers to not only input new customers, service orders, and notes but also be able to go back through the records when customers come and ask specific questions. It is these forms that ultimately make this database a “one-stop shop” for all information related to the customers' vehicles and services. Whereas the forms are more helpful to the customers and technicians, the reports are more for management use. These reports help with the everyday decisions of both the general manager and service manager. Thus, this database is beneficial for everyone working in the company and can be accessed at any Atlantic Auto Group location.
